| It is/was a great place to live because of the citizens and what they contributed to the state and their communities, NOT because of any sort of legislation, restrictive or otherwise. Their state and municipal governments are out of control and look to pass/enforce laws for their own political benefit rather than any greater good. They govern the place like its citizens are in the military, one person craps their pants and everybody is forced to wear diapers. Well they aren't in the military, unlike us, Californians can leave (shouldn't be a mystery why illegal immigration laws aren't enforced then, eh?). The rest of the country watches what goes on out there and braces for their own politicians to try to follow suit. There is more to quality of life than all the material "stuff" that californians enjoy. Freedoms like to not have to worry about being fined because you are smoking a cigarette, not having to worry about your car being impounded because you like to modify it, etc etc are what make a place great. CA is constantly legislating more and more of its citizens LIVES in ways that range from being a nuisance to plain silly as hell. CA was a great place, now it is like a mockery of itself.
